I'm about to move into a house for college with three of my buddies and we are having a difficult time organizing. It's uncertain at this point which of us is bringing a couch, coffee table, etc. Bedrooms are obviously not an issue, but I really could use help forming a general list of furniture needed for a five bedroom 2 story house

  1. You make up a list of furniture, appliances etc in each room that you will need for sure...make sure the main things are taken xcare of like...microwave, toaster, tv, couch, dvd player etc...then anything extra people have to bring, they can bring it.  It will cut down a lot on ending up with double things, but make sure you have everything needed :)

  2. Dont worry about the whole house now. Just move in and organize your bedrooms and see what everyone has to contribute to the rest of the house. In my college days, thrift stores were the source of most of our furnishings. If each of you has a housefull of furnishings, rent a storage unit for the extras.

  3. Just look around your house and figure out what you use every day. You're going to want something to sit on in the living room...whether it's a couch or a couple of folding chairs is up to you. You'll probably want a tv...pots and pans....dishes and cups...toaster, coffee maker, basic food items, and bathroom stuff.

It's easier to move into the house first, and figure out what you need from there.

  4. Frankly, it sounds like you know what you're doing. Finish the list then have everyone choose what they will bring; if there are 20 items total, then each is responsible for 5. less is more as you will acumulate  more junk than you really need over time; it doesn't really matter the value of each item- it will all come out in the wash...
