  1. Have you tried throwing it into a clothes washing machine with a few other things (towels, shirts, etc.) and running the load through the full cycle?  When the load is finished, just put the clothes in a dryer but keep out the hat.

Shape the hat by hand.  As it dries (I put mine over a coffee can or a round top plastic container), I check it once in awhile and, when it is almost dry, I spray it liberally with spray on clothes starch inside and out.  Continue to shape and let it dry completely.

There you go, a nice clean hat, in excellent condition, that doesn't smell like a tennis shoe.  If you shaped it several times while drying, it looks as good as new and smells that way too.

  2. you can buy a plastic holder thing that is the shape of a hat, put your hat in it and throw it in the dishwasher, by itself of course.  The plastic thing will help it keep its shape.

  3. I take it you have tried washing & airing it out. Most things seem to mask smells. Don't know if this will work as well for hats but I have found that stuffing newspaper inside stinky shoes helps calm those odors. Perhaps it would work you hat.

  4. Have your cat pee on it.  You will no longer notice the sweat smell.
