  1. You cant really teach your child this.  Its something that comes naturally when they are ready.  You can play with him and hold his hands up so he sits up, but when he is ready you will know, eventually he will just do it one day.

  2. I understand your willingness to help your baby, but, really, there is not much you can or should do. He/she will learn on his own. The "normal" age for babies to sit up by themselves is around 7-9 months but, as always, this can vary a great deal from one baby to another.

I'm attaching an interesting link about baby development. Hope that helps!

  3. Have Richard Simmons come and teach and motivate him to sit up.  He's great at that type of thing.

  4. baby bounce!

  5. The Bumbo works okay...but the real way to teach your baby or help them learn is thru cause and effect. Once your baby can maintain good head control...and back control...set him on the floor with pillows all around...maybe have him leaning against something and slowly take the "lean to" away.

    Practice makes perfect.

The boppy is a great tool because it helps the baby a lot to sit up and it doesnt hurt when they fall back or forward or to the side.

Good luck...im working on this right now with my 2nd child.

Have you heard of the tripod sitting position?...it is where baby sits and leans forward on his arms...this also helps to get the baby in position for crawling.

  6. I am a first time mom too, and I had the same question when my little guy was smaller.  I just did tummy time with him, which will strengthen his back muscles.  I believe he was about 4 or 5 months when he sat up all by himself for the first time.  It's amazing what they learn all on their own!

Oh, and I got him a Bebe Pod (similar to Bumbo seats) and it helps them sit up when they aren't strong enough to do it on their own, but I wouldn't put your baby in there till around 4 months.  That's when we got the most use out of ours.  Before that, he just toppled to the side.
