  1. by doing it. don't be embarrased and don't give up. people talk smack but, one day you'll shut 'em up.

  3. I'm not sure where you live... but find a beach  or look online for your area  for surf  lessons. If the person knows what they are doing you should be up within an hour. They will have extra long boards to help you learn. They are usually soft tops and 12Ft..I know it seems long but its easier to get up on. Make sure they either have a rash guard for you or you have a  tee shirt, because  the soft tops can  give you a rash.... hope this helps, Aloha!

  4. yeah, and live, breath, think surfing. Move to Hawaii or California if possible.

  5. Yes a surf instructor would be a good way to go. They can give give you the basics, then watch you and give you pointers to help you improve.

    After a couple lessons, if you want to continue, rent some boards and make sure it's what you want to invest time and money into. Soft top boards are available for rental, which would be a good idea to start out on.

    There are several factors that can make surfing easier or harder on you.

    -Generally, the longer the board, the easier it is to learn. But there are other factors as far as the board is concerned. The thicker the board, the more easily it will float you, and the easier it will be to catch waves. The wider the board, the more stability it will have, and the easier it will be to stand up and stay up.

    -The waves. If the waves are big, breaking fast, and break really steep, it's going to be a lot harder to learn. If they are smaller, break slower and aren't steep, you can learn a lot easier. Find a spot that is good for beginners and where it isn't very crowded.

    Don't get frustrated. It's one of, if not the hardest sport to learn. Remember to have fun!

  6. ask a friend that knows how to teach you...then you wont feel so embarassed if you just suck cause you know the person

  7. what  you do is buy a cheap used board and go out and keep trying till you get it. that is how i started surfing. it is not that hard .
