  1. I used to coach a cheerleading squad and they had a 3 minute dance routine. First I broke the music down into 8 counts. I taught them one 8 count at a time until they got it down and we would move on to the next.

I think it is much easier to memorize when each movement is assigned a number.

  2. Go over a few steps, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat...add a few more, start at the begining and repeat, repeat, repeat until you know it well...add more, repeat many times, add more, repeat many times.

PERFECT practice makes perfect.  Don't just 'do' the routine, do as correct as possible.  Slowly at first, then up to speed when you both know it and do it well, with all technique.

  3. Do each set of steps slowly, until you've mastered them. Then add more steps until you've got the whole routine! Also, for me I like to use words in the song to keep in time to the music and to help memorize steps.

  4. when im in the middle of math class or in the shower, i just say the routine over and over in my head. i also listen to the music and sing the steps as if it were the words to the song. i know its weird but it always helps me.

  5. just keep going over and over and over and over it until you get it perfect! practice makes perfect!!

good luck and hope this helps!!!

  6. I make stories out of my routines, and I remember the feeling of the different steps. My mind remembers direction well, so I basea alot of my stories on direction.

    Hope it helps!

  7. The way I memorize dances is by listening to the music.

Certain lyrics always stick out to me, like just one word, and I remember the move when that word is playing and I try to remember the next few moves around that, then I'll pick another word and so on.

I can't really explain cause it's my personal style but I hoped it helped.

    xx

  8. It may sound simple, but try to relax and clear your mind while doing it. The more you think about it the harder it will be to memorize. Oh and practice untill your feet fall off ! =)

  9. This method works for me:

Break the routine into a few separate moves. You can practise those sections part by part and combine them all together when you have mastered each part. By breaking down your choreography into separate pieces, you can actually remember better than if you practice the whole routine at once.
