I inherited new d.r. furniture, but it's dated. I want to paint all three pieces black to modernize it. Just want to make sure I do it right. Any help?

  1. The wood can be sanded, primed, painted.  For the formica/laminate top you need some liquid sand paper (they sell it at your local hardware store).  Rub it on the surface of the laminate after it dries you will have to prime it before you can paint it.

The primer will help cover the old color, help your new paint adhere better, last longer and look nocer.  Don't forget to put a clear coat over the whole thing to protect all your work.  I would suggest using  a flat paint then a few coats of polyurathane over the whole thing.
