What's the best way to paint kitchen cabinets

We may be buying a house and the cabinets are eh.. blah. I like white cabinets and thought about painting them white, getting a newer counter, and putting new k***s on rather than spending a fortune replacing it all. I have never done this.. so what's the best way? Should I do primer first and then paint? Should I just paint? Is there a certain paint that's better than another? Also.. what color counter would look best with white cabinets? Gray? Black? Tan? I'm thinking granite probably.. once we can afford it.

  1. Your best option is to research exactly what types of colors you want.  You would want to make sure the color you choose is something you feel comfortable looking at day after day.  As for materials, the best option is to shop around different places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, or the local home improvement places to where you live.  The more you research what you want and look at different places, the more money you will save.  Also you can research products on line, like Direct-Buy, that usually sell you tiles, paint, and even furniture at discounted prices compared to retail.

  2. Sand them enough to roughen the surface. Prime. Let the primer sit for a couple of days. Paint with a white simi gloss. You can get black laminate for the counter tops that looks great and will save you $$$

  3. light sanding, prime light sanding and paint

  4. paintbrush...paint.

  5. If they are real wood you can simple sand, primer and paint. You will want o put a clear gloss sealant over the paint to help you keep them clean better.

Grey or a grey blue mixed counter top would look best with brush nickel door fixtures

  6. I would suggest hiring a professional.

When it comes to your house, mistakes aren't an option.
