What's the best way to paint paneling?

I'm moving into an apartment that is nothing but paneling........the landlord said i can paint it....what's the best way to paint paneling?

My mother did this in her old house she applied several coats to do it but the best way would probably be to buy primer and then paint. I know it brightened my moms living area up so much good luck, have fun.

With a roller.  Really.

The problem you may run into is if any waxes, silicones or polishes were used on the paneling.  The paint will peel off.

You could try a No Sand chemical scuffer to help the paint stick or you will have to give whatever you plan to paint a regular light sanding to create tiny grooves and scratches that the paint can lock into.

There is a certain primer you must apply before painting paneling. I can't remember the name of it but any one at the Hardware Store can tell you what it is.

Paint with a roller, use the edge to get the grooves.

Paint it White or it looks tacky!
