Question:

What's the best way to remove concrete render?

We have a 100 year old farmhouse that suffers from damp. A plastic coating has been sprayed over a cracked concrete render.

We originally hoped that removing the plastic coating would sort out the damp problems, but because the render is blown in places and very cracked we think that the best thing to do is to remove it and replace it with a lime render.

Does anybody know the best way to get it off? We have to do it ourselves because we need to keep costs to a minimum.

Thanks.

  1. hammer and bolster is the best way. Electric Kango type hammers are good but you have to make sure the brickwork is sound before using one. If only a small delicate area there are chemical (acid based) strippers out there.
