Question:

What's the best way to remove odors from car upholstery?

I plan on going to the store and buying good old fashioned arm and hammer baking soda and covering the upholstery of my car with it, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, vacuum it, and repeat. Then, strategically place dryer sheets throughout the vehicle, in the glove box, under the front seats, etc. Any other tips?

  1. Febreze

  2. This may sound weird...but this is how you ELIMINATE odors in your car.  Buy a whole can of Folger's coffee (an off brand will work too), remove the lid and cut 5 quarter size holes in it.  Slice up 1 granny smith apple and place the slices on top of coffee(these absorb the odors).  Put the lid back on and place in the very back of your car...(this tends to be sort of strong smelling) leave there for 3 days and remove.  Your car should be odor free now :)

  3. I was just reading the side of a box of borax.  It said that to remove odors (pet, urine, etc.), dampen the area, sprinkle borax, wait for it to dry, then vacuum the borax up.  That coffee can thing sounded interesting, though.

  4. you have a good plan going - if you have had something spilled on the seat or floor prior, i would have the area a little damp and then put the soda - let dry and then vacuum it.

you may want to wash the dash with a small amount of soap & water mixture and then throw in an air freshner

    good luck
