yesterday, my computer showed a warning on the desktop telling a virus had been detected and i needed to install an antivirus to remove virus and spy wares. i already had a valid anti virus installed in the machine. A new file with " .exe " extension was trying to send information to the net without my permission.

i disconnected from the internet, uninstalled the security suite and installed another security program. then i tried to full scan the computer with new security program. in the middle of the scanning, the computer start rebooting itself over and over. I couldnt shut it down. I just unplugged the machine. I don'tknow how to remove the virus.

would it help to restore my computer to a date before this warning?

  1. Probably a Trojan.

Yes, restore to a previous date. At least 1 week before this virus began giving you trouble.

I had a virus, and had Norton Antivirus installed, and it didnt do the job right. It detected the virus, but wouldnt fix the problem. I restored to a previous date and now my PC is functioning perfectly.

  2. DONTTT RESTORE YOURE COMPUTER

the virus could replicate itself in the restore points

first off, start your cpu in safe mode by repeatedly pressing F8 while your cpu is booting up

next, disable system restore so it cant do it

next, uninstall your security program, most security programs ive come across suck anyway

now go online and download this

    http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng...

that there ^^^ is avast antivirus, best antivirus ive come across

it kicked the sh*t outta the two viruses i had on my cpu. it asks if you want to do a boot scan, click yes. This allows for avast to kill your viruses even before the BIOS starts. Thats crazy.

Once you have avast, get Mozilla Firefox and Opera web browsers if you dont already. They are significantly better than IE and safer too. Trust me.

    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

    http://www.opera.com/download/

Now that you have all those, get Zone Alarm Firewall.

It's quite thorough. Although annoying at first, it will save your computer in the long run.

Now, get CCleaner, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, and Ad-Aware.

All are free products that clean your computer and prevent spyware/malware.

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download

Now youre CPU will be squeaky clean haha.

    Cheers :D

  3. To be safe, boot up the system, run a full scan with AVG 8.0. Google it to find a free copy, then run Spybot from www.download.com and then run CCleaner from www.download.com too. All these are free programs and should clean up your system.

  4. Try Running Whole System Scan in Safe mode where files are not loaded on there.

Restart your computer hit F8 as soon as possible and run a full system scan there.

Make sure you turn off your system restore.

    Good Luck.

  5. you can also try upgrading your anti virus software. and making sure you have the most current protection to you.

also to be honest if the anti virus can not remove it my best bet is a clean installation of your operating system. (Format the drive erasing all data and then install a fresh copy to insure you have removed the virus.)

its good to do this every so often to ensure a fast running computer.
