I would like to do really well because I have 2 older brothers and 1 older sister and they all got A* in their exams. I am always being compared to them and no matter how hard I try i never seem to do that well. Any tips??

  1. Get past exams and practise questions from them. By practising the types of questions that come up you'll understand how the correctors want the questions answered and this help improve your marks!Get your teachers to correct your answers, they'll be able to tell you what your doing wrong and what your doing right!Don't get hung up on getting A*'s just do your best and you'll do fine!

  2. I have just finished high school and from experience I would say:

    Always listen in class

    Ask if your unsure

Don't be afraid to ask for more work or more homework if you feel you want it

    When your revising:

    > Make spider diagrams

    > Make little cards with all important information on for easy reference

    > Make your own worksheets up - it really helps :)

    > Be organised - make sure you have a folder for each subject

    > set aside more and more time as you come nearer the exams for revising

    > Put off going out so often

    > Have study dates with friends - but make sure you do actually study!!

    Good Luck :)

Don't always compare yourself to others, I know its hard but everyone is better than someone else at something,, its what makes us human.

  3. Its hard being compared to your older brothers and sisters, it happened to me too! Whilst i was revising for my GCSE's i remembered as much information as i could then used pass papers, using pass papers helps put the information you've learned into practice, they helped me loads and payed off!!

I was at a current grade D in my science and tried past papers over the few monthes before the tests and got 87% - Grade A!

Anything is possbile, just work as hard as you can!

    Good luck! =]

  4. Find what works best for you, I found writing notes with bullet points best for me.  Also taking plenty of breaks, not watching tv but just maybe a walk down the shop to get something.

  5. If your sibling's all got A* then they are very smart, I congratulate them. All I can say is listen in class, do your work, and revise, revise, revise! Good Luck though!

  6. One way I found that worked well was to get your notes for a subject, and type them all into summary paragraphs. Just by reading and rewriting, and selecting the important information, you're taking stuff in. Reading over when you're done can help too, or copying it out again and again. It's fairly tedious, but it really works.

On top of that, I got my sister to record some of the paragraphs so I could listen to them (I hate the sound of my own voice!). That helps it to sink in too.

If you've got less time, then just bullet pointing your notes can help.

I'm guessing your GCSEs are next year or the year after.. you wouldn't be asking if you'd just taken them. So make sure to take detailed notes in your classes this year. Answer questions in full sentences otherwise you won't have a clue what you meant when you look back on it (I'm talking about Science in particular here).

Of course, it depends how you learn. You might want to try a mind-map/brainstorm, a list, or writing practice essays or doing past papers. You should be able to ask your teacher for some.

There are also various websites available (such as BBC Bitesize) although I find I don't learn much just reading them, so again, I tended to make bullet points off those.

Good for you for thinking about it so far in advance, sorry it's such a long answer but hope that'll help a bit, it did for me!

    Good luck!

  7. I have just taken my GCSEs this year and so i do know a little about it. You have to find the way of revising that works for you such as writng facts down and then remembering them or doing activities to do with what you are revising or just going over and over it. then you need to be organised, do a revision timetable for yourself and stick to it although i must admit that i never stuck to mine! make sure you know what exams you have and when. And make sure you revise regularly but taking breaks so that yiou don't get so bored that you give up. Good Luck hope this helps
