What's the best way to scan my old slides and negatives?

I have a ton of 35mm slides and negatives that I would like to scan into digital format. I've seen a number of options out there, from digital camera attachments to flatbed scanners to dedicated fil scanners. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but I'd like to get decent results.

  1. The only way to go is to get yourself a film and slide scanner which runs about $100 and up. Here's a sample site:
