What's the best way to soundproof a car yourself?

i have a 1997 gmc jimmy and the doors seem to rattle constantly! I would really like to improve the quality of ride and fixing this is essential becuase i'm going to be installing my system in it. please keep in mind that i'm not looking to spend a lot of money...

  1. First off you need to find out what is making the rattle.

    Pull the door trims off and inspect inside the door, There may be loose mechanisms, broken plastic clips, screws inside, anything. The best thing to do is to inspect things thoroughly.

    You can buy spray on sound deadner, however, this wont suit inside doors, What you really need is a carpet type material you can glue to the back of your door trims.

    Or, remove the door trim and cut new trims out of checkerplate (I think its called something different in USA) and make custom door trims. This also gives the speakers something solid to s***w into.


  2. There really is no cheap way to sound deaden and make it worth your while.  I'd suggest you find the source of the rattle like the other guy mentioned and try to fix the rattles.
