  1. Hot air gun. Less likely to scorch the wood and less messy than paint stripper.

  2. Use paint stripper and wire wool only where the mouldings are ornate and you cannot get in with anything else.  For a DIYer you are better off using a hot air gun and a shave hook.

  3. Blow torch or a bottle of paint stripper. Whichever you deel more confident using.

The pros will use a blow torch.

  4. as a qaulified decorator of 24 years i would use nitromorse (green tin ), a shavehook ( buy from any diy store ), wire wool and sugar soap. put the nitromorse on with a brush, leave for 2 minutes, scrape of with shavehook, repeat 2 maybe 3 times the clean with wire wool and sugar soapplease remember to wear gloves and goggles andmake sure no kids or pets come in contact with nitromorse. hope this is of some help.

P.S.  it might be cheaper to replace all the wood.

  5. we got a heat gun from bq for £20 thats the best way we tried nitromorse at first it smells and costs to much if buying in quantity not nice if you have small children with the fumes
