If they haven't already said no then just do it.

thats pretty big, if i remember correctly.

the bigger the number the smaller the gauge?

idk im dumb. all my friends do it though, and theres are HUGE.

First tell them a 2g can close up no problem if you take it out, because it can.  Second tell them a 2g is nothing compared to some peoples' gauges.  Third show them a picture of my ears and say "AT LEAST I'M NOT GOING THAT BIG!  NOT BY FAR!":
