It's best to speak your words slowly and deliberately, so your parrot will hear the pronunciations.  Say a word, pause, then say it again.  Sound out each syllable.  Even parakeets can learn to talk using this method.  Make sure there are no distractions during the teaching time.  Do this daily.

Play you tube videos of other birds talking or get some cd's with other birds talking (real birds and not humans) and make sure everytime you walk in or out of the room you say something you want your bird to learn. This is why so many birds say "hi" or "hello" because they are most alert and stimulated when someone first walks into the room they are in. When this happens they are more likely to learn. When their eyes pin, they are also more likely to learn so pay attention to that kind of behavior and teach then. Make it exciting and fun and reward the bird for trying.
