I.e., in the long run, what's the most affordable kind of way to travel (Europe, Asia)? Specifics aren't too important. What kind of places should I stay, what kind of transportation, etc. Thanks.

  1. Traveling on a budget would be the best way.  Skip the fancy hotels, and 5 star dinners, that will certainly bust your budget if you can't afford it.

Staying at Bed and Breakfasts, Pensions, Apt style living (renting by the month, instead of daily), living among locals instead of high end resorts.  Having your own kitchen to cook your meals and stock up on sundries is definitely a way to save.  When you reach your destination, travel by bus, and train, instead of renting a car.  Rent a bike or scooter, depending on your location.
