What's the best way to txt the UK from abroad? Getting a sim in that country, or buying one before I go away?

I'm thinking of taking my mobile with me when I go travelling next week (singapore, malaysia, thailand, china, japan, vietnam) & I've been looking at pay as you go sims for the cheapest rates.

I only want a pay as you go 'cause I'll be getting a new phone once I've finished travelling so a contract isn't the best option. Also my dad is putting some credit on a phone card for me, so I'm looking primarily for the cheapest txt rates, though may need the option of calling if something happens.

So far the cheapest I've found is T-mobile, at 40p/txt. I've been told in a phone shop that the cheapest way to do it is to buy sim cards in each country I visit. Is this true? How easy would it be for me to find pay as you go sims in these countries & does anybody know roughly what kind of rates they offer to txt to the UK?

Also, my phone is a Motorola V3x, would foreign sims work in it if I got it unlocked?

myself when i go to India i take my old phone  its unlocked and get a simcard there, it so much cheaper about 5p a txt, just find a phone shop, you pay so much for sim plus top up

buy a cheap phone - samsung are easy to unlock - and get it

unlocked - each country buy a new sim card - much much cheaper - save numbers to phone and sim - and replace in

each country. it will save you a fortune - and when you come

back to uk - give phone to someone nice in the last country you've been in.

also buy a solar power device to charge your phone -

solio is one that will play and charge ipod as well

also log all phone numbers onto you yahoo email account-

i also scan passport visas birth certicate, insurance etc.

if you lose anything you wil have details via access to your
