Half of the people in my life seem to think I need to lose a few lbs, the other half say I'm perfectly fine. I'm in my late 20s, 5'7 and 175 lbs. My goal is to lose about 20 lbs, in order to look and feel healthy. I hear different advice from different people. Eat less, eat more, exercise, take diet pills, etc. etc. I wanna know the best way to lose weight and stay healthy and be able to maintain it.

  2. Diabetic diet and regular exercise.  You should exercise about 40 minutes three times a week and eat what is traditionally the diabetic diet, which basically means you avoid processed sugars and flour.  Don't eat anything made from white flour such as white bread, donuts, cereal, pancakes, pasta.  Don't eat sugar, sodas, candy bars.  Don't eat fast food.  The refined flour is blamed for a very large number of diseases.  Of you are healthy avoid it and you will remain healthy.  The type of flour you are allowed to eat is whole wheat, not to my taste, but its healthy.  The same is true of rice, white rice is out, brown rice and while rice are in.  Avoid anything that has been heavily processed like fast food, prepacked ready to eat food, and the like.  Eat a lot of vegetables  and fruits in small amounts.  Avoid the fats and oils.  Eat red meat in small quantities, eat turkey, chicken, and fish regularly.  The heavily processed foods and sugars turn into fat, the carbs turn into fat.  Complex carbs from whole wheat have fiber and therefore don't have the poor characteristics as enriched white flour.  The first 20 minutes of exercise keep you healthy, but you don't burn fat.  You have to get your heart rate up and keep it up for more than 20 minutes, every minute after 20 minutes burns fat.  Don't get your heart rate too high, somewhere around 120 is ideal, but it varies by age.  If you get your heart rate to high, you burn mostly sugars and not fat.  Drink a lot of water and make sure you get plenty of sleep.  If you don't sleep enough you tend not to lose weight.  Once you start exercising you will likely gain weight from muscle, but you will then start burning fat faster once you build more muscle, muscle burns more fat.  Once you adapt to the diet, keep it, it is nothing really special, it just means a change in your eating habits.

  3. There are a couple of things you need to realize you before you embark on your weight loss journey.

Firstly don't think of it as a diet. In order to lose weight and keep it off you need to make a healthy lifestyle change and stick to it. There are no two ways about it.

Secondly healthy weight loss is gradual weight loss. We all want to lose weight fast but when this occurs it usually means loss of water and/or muscle. This is not good. Our body needs water and we gain it back fairly rapidly (which in turn means weight gain). More importantly we need muscle in order to burn fat. Muscle is a very active tissue, so burns fat even while resting.

There is no magic secret to weight loss. It is all about hard work, commitment, goal setting and desire. If you want to lose weight you can and you will.

Never, I repeat never take diet pills. They are a scam, are potentially dangerous and they do not work.

If you burn more calories than you take in (achieved through a healthy eating plan), build up muscle through strength training and complete 30 minutes of solid cardio a day then weight loss is a certainty.

  5. You can lose a lot of weight just by changing the way that you eat. Get the tips you need in this article.

    Smaller Amounts More Frequently

One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to eat less food but more often. The way I do this is to divide my daily calorie maximum by six. Here’s an example.

  6. you don't sound extremely overweight but you could afford to lose some because your BMI is a little up there =/

dont ever take diet pills they s***w with your metabolism.

they do more harm than good.

just watch what you eat, do an hour of cardio every other day, work on toning your arms and legs, and do some crunches!

you shouldn't eat more than 2,000 calories a day too.
