I want to take my girlfriend to a west end muscial, but I've never actually been to one myself. There seem to be so many, i just can't choose! Any suggestions would be really great. Thanks :)

  1. Dickens UNPLUGGED by far.

Way way funny AND cultural (without the boring part)

  2. There are many on, as you know,

but my top 3 would have to be:

    - Spamalot (Monty Python musical, if it's still on, VERY funny)

    - Avenue Q (Hilarious but the funniest guy has just finished his 1-2 year run so I dont know if it's still any good)

    - Blood Brothers (a lot less famous, but really funny and a really interesting story, highly recommended)

And if it matters, out of these, Blood Brothers will be cheapest :P

  3. It depends whether you want something original or something featuring songs you already know.

For original ones, the best ones I have seen are:

    Les Miserables

    The Producers (some adult humour)

Avenue Q (quite adult but with muppets!)

    Wicked

Phantom of the Opera (although seats are so small it hurts!)

    Joseph

    Adaptations that are great:

    Mamma Mia (songs of Abba)

Lion King (songs from the Movie by Elton John)

Dirty Dancing (based on the movie)

Remember a night out to the theatre is a night out in itself and there is very rarely something awful still running (although I've heard that Gone with the Wind is bad) as it tends to close quite quickly.  Go with something that's been open for a couple of years that you've heard of and you'll be fine.  Make an evening of it with a meal before it.  A lot of restaurants do deals to fill their tables early for pre-theatre menus.  Try www.lastminute.com or www.toptable.com for a dinner and theatre deal which might end up cheaper than the tickets on their own from the box office.  Have a great night and remember to buy her a programme and an ice cream!

  4. Go see Wicked. The wife dragged me alone and I thought I'd hate it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  5. dirty dancing is really good!
