  1. According to my Which Car? that arrived today, Toyota Yaris Verso 2000 - 2005 scores 97%, Daihatsu Sirion (2005 on) & Honda Jazz (2001 on) both do very well at 94%

Scores comprise running costs, reliability, economy, dealer service, etc.

  2. The cheapest may not be the safest, nor the most reliable ( which is one reason why it is the cheapest... )

There are lots of vehicles which qualify with maybe one or two of your search criteria.  Generally speaking, any 4 cylinder engine with a manual transmission ( especially if it is a diesel ) will be the cheapest and most economical.  Whether they are safe and reliable is another question.

  3. 2005-2007 Focus

    reasons

    1. New body style out = lowers value cheaper for you

    2. Power train warranty 5 years 100,000 miles

    3. 5 star crash rating

    4. Since the first year 2000, it is one of the most reliable cars.

    5. 28-34mpg on average

If you go to a midsize the 2006-2007 Taurus is the best. Safest car on the road and they have 10,000-30,000 miles on them and are half the price as when they were new.

  4. i'd imagine it would be the civic. i see those things all over the place.
