  1. I've gotten several for free and many others for under $20 at garage sales, flea markets, and thrift shops.

  2. I have to also agree with going to keh.com. Craigslist can be annoying to deal with. you could get a deal, but you also could get a headache.

You can easily get a camera and a lens for under $100.

  3. You can find excellent used Nikon and Canon SLR's with a standard zoom for under $150 on craigslist.

  4. I like KEH out of Atlanta for used cameras . If they describe a camera as in GOOD condition , it will generally look as a good as new .

  5. HI ChiChi,

Sounds like you are going to be taking a photo class??  but I am just guessing...

If you are looking for the cheapest...  don't dismiss pawn shops but,  you may have to take someone who knows a little about cameras with you to check out the condition of the camera.

A little story....   Last week I was looking in  pawn shop for an inexpensive Canon lens - 28-80mm.  There were no individual lenses by themselves but there was one on a Canon Rebel that had $29.00 on it for both pieces... then they gave me a 'Best Price" of $21.00.  Great deal!!!  Until I found out it also came with a case and another lens.    The clerk went to the store room and came back with a case and a Canon 70-300 Image Stabilizer Lens.... valued at $800.   So I got all for pieces for $21.00 !!!!!  What a great deal.   The point of the story is that you can find good deals on SLR cameras in pawn shops because they are trying to get rid of them to make room for the digitals on their shelves.    They had three more SLRS as well... two other Canons and one Nikon, each of those priced at $59.00.

So remember,  have someone that knows a little about cameras go in with you.  And most of the time,  the camera's battery will be bad... so if you find a camera you really like and the battery is dead...  run to the store and get a fresh battery to try out the camera before you buy it.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for reading.
