I have a Dish ViP722 and a Toshiba HD-A3 I want to hook up. Currently I have a Harmon-Kardon AVR146, which switches HDMI, but it's pass-through only. I want a receiver that can switch HDMI and receive audio through it, namely LPCM so I can play HD audio from my HD-A3. The target price, if possible, is about $250.

  1. You're going to want one that decodes "DolbyTrueHD" and "DTS-HD Master Audio", as well as "LPCM".  And you're going to spend at least $500 on such a beast.  The Onkyo "TX-SR605" is the most inexepensive receiver to do these things for you.

It actually be LESS expensive to return your Toshiba player for the more expensive model with the "5.1 Analog" Output.  You could then hook it to a less expensive receiver with a "5.1 Analog" Input.  Click here to see what I'm talking about: http://www.avtruths.com/uncompressed.htm...
