What's the cheapest/fastest way to get from Paris to Omaha Beach, Normandy?

I've seen several day trip tours available, but I would rather save some cash. I don't want to drive the entire way since it's 4 hours out there from Paris.

  1. Take the TGV up to Caen from the Gare du Nord.  From Caen you can catch a bus, they don't run very often.  You may need to catch a cab at one point.  In my experience, you might be better off renting a car.

  2. WWW.SNCF.FR

  3. Buy a bicycle, that's the cheapest way....

Sincerely, you need a car to get there and also because you might want to visit other beaches in the area.

Don't forget waterproof clothes cause it rains quite a lot in Normandy...

Enjoy and fon't forget to visit "Le Calvados" 'which is also teh name of a nice drink!", the landscape is just so beautiful

  4. While you can take the TGV to Caen the ordinary inter city (Grandes Lignes) which leaves from the Gare Saint-Lazare is cheaper.

Many companies offer excursions to the D-Day beaches from Bayeux or Caen for about €35-40 per person for a half-day.

However, there are good bus routes in Normandy with services between Caen and Bayeux, Bayeux and Ouistrem, and Bayeux to Grandcamp. These cover most of the main landing beaches. Free bus timetables can be acquired from the main tourist office in Caen on the Place St Pierre.

A map of the bus routes can be found here: http://www.busverts.fr/_hiver/plan.asp

A one day bus pass can be purchased for 17.70 euros

  5. bus is cheaper
