I'd love to visit the US this summer - end of July/start of August. Anywhere, really. Will flights to New York always be the cheapest? I saw 550ish to Miami. Anyone have any sensible tips? I'll send a postcard if so!

  1. New York usually, because that's the route with the most competitors; Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington DC are often next-cheapest, followed closely by Atlanta, Orlando, Miami and sometimes Detroit and Cincinnatti.

Zoom are flying to Fort Lauderdale (just north of Miami), New York, and San Diego this summer from Gatwick.  Check http://www.flyzoom.com

Also have a look at http://www.cheapflights.co.uk -- enter your origin and desired destination, and it will show you best offers for the current season, both from consolidators, as well as any special offers from airlines -- both big (BA, Virgin) and small (Kuwait Air, Air India, Zoom).

    Finally, try http://www.bookingbuddy.com and http://travel.kelkoo.co.uk/c-172201-flig...

Among this group, I think you will find the absolute best offer for your UK-US flights this summer.

  2. "Will flights to New York always be the cheapest?"

Almost always. But other major East Coast cities usually won't be much more than New York.

    "I saw 550ish to Miami."

The summer is low season for Miami.  It is very hot, humid, and rainy.  I wouldn't recommend visiting it in the summer.

  4. BA have an offer to Miami which ends at midnight TONIGHT, the 24th June.   They have return flights from Heathrow and Gatwick from £369, between 22nd August and 7th December.

Flights out on the 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th Aug. and 3rd & 4th Sept. are showing at £184.00.   Return flights on 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th of Sept. are also showing at £184.00.  When combined the total flight cost is £368.10p, inclusive of taxes, charges etc. and these examples are on the Heathrow/Miami route.

Gatwick/Tampa and Gatwick/Orlando are also showing a return price of £368.20 on similar dates to those quoted above.
