What's the cheapest place to buy knitting needles?

I would like a nice assortment of needle sizes, since it would be the first time buying my own needles, but if I have to buy each size separately that's fine too.

~ Thanks :)

  1. Michael's Arts and Crafts has a pretty good selection of needlework materials. Most needlework supplies are pretty inexpensive if you don't count the yarn.

  2. Cheap, expensive, they're not relative in this case it's what your comfortable with. Some of the best knitters I know have an extensive collection of needles, I mean hundreds and one nearing close to a thousand if not more but they always go back to what's comfortable for them. You now, like the old shirt or shoes you've had since college or first married. I'm sure you get the idea. Anyhow, I have found very few at thrift stores and a little bit more than that at yard sales but JoAnn Fabrics is okay but I always tell people to go local. It's really hard to find quality yarn shops but when you do the only way to keep them is to buy from them. Spending just a little more now will ensure a long lasting relationship with the needle and store keeper. Oh! Borrowing is defined simply as a good way to learn.

  3. This week Hobby Lobby has all of their knitting needles on sale, plus their online ad has a 40% off coupon that you can use for yarn. They also sell sets which tend to be a better price per set of needles. Personally I prefer the wood/bamboo needles, even though I started out on traditional needles.

Here's a link to the Hobby Lobby ad and it has a link to find stores in your area. Happy knitting! :)

  4. Check out local thrift shops, from the Salvation Army and Goodwill stores to church thrift shops.  Cruise yard sales and estate sales.  Many times you will not only find inexpensive needles, but patterns and yarns as well.

  5. when i had a financial limit to my buying of crafts and wanted to do knitting i used shish kebab sticks xD but if you want them in different sizes i'd suggest ebay, walmart, or a random old lady you meet and make friends with that knits

there might also be craft demonstrations that might hand out free things or inform you about cheap items

also try goodwill or any secondhand shops since some people donate their old knitting needles

  6. Most of the thrift shops I go to have a big assortment of needles in various sizes and materials, usually $1-2 a pair or less. Good way to try different types, and to get a variety fast. You can always replace them at your leisure later.

  7. Probably WalMart, but cheap isn't always better. I would invest in nice needles (bamboo or wooden are more comfortable) and get the size you need when you need it for a project.
