I know they can be quite pricey, but I was told that one of the dumps near me sells them for 100 bucks, could this be true? Or I also heard about the 1$ per gallon thing, or is there any specific site that sells them for cheap? Please help I'm only thirteen and really wanna get into the fish hobby, I have had a few but not in a tank this big... Thanks in advance!

  1. Buying a tank that big is going to be an expensive ordeal, no matter how you look at it. You may get the tank itself for cheap, but then you will need a stand. When it comes to stands, you can not go cheap. You need a GOOD sturdy stand. You have to figure the tank with water alone will weigh about 1,000lbs, not counting in decorations.

Then you need to get a good filter. You either need one large canister filter (about 200-300$), or two biowheel or power filters (55 gallon biowheel is around 60$ or so)

Rocks and decorations will probably cost you another hundred or so, and then you have to stock it with fish.

The CHEAPEST way to do this is to try to find a complete set for sale.

    http://www.craigslist.org

is a good place to look. People sell stuff on here. I've seen a 150 gallon tank and stand for 300$ combined, but the tank did not hold water, so all the sides would need to be resealed. We have the same exact tank and stand, and for new, our tank was 300$ and the stand was about 400$.

But you are going to need your parents help with this, financialy and space wise. Are they even willing to allow you to get a tank this size? these tanks need a lot of room. If so, good for you and them, but be warned, there is nothing cheap about setting up a tank that big. It is fun, though, and well worth it :)

  2. ebay

  3. i got one out of the paper for $30 it was only a 50 gallon buy it came with everything heaters and all

  4. I usually look into my local paper first, then you could always checkout Ebay or Craigslist.  Many people get into this hobby and then find that it's to much work so there are always deals to be had.  Happy hunting!

  5. CraigsList is a great way to find good used items.

  6. try yard sales in your area or go to ebay.com if you go to ebay check the shipping closely as it can cost depending on weight and it being glass it takes care to ship fish tanks. you can find the fairly cheap there.

  7. Look on craiglist. People are trying to sell their aquariums to save on their utilities bill. So there are tons of great deals. I got my brand new 55gallon with a lid and stand for $200, originally $350.
