I guess the absolute cheapest is to walk.  After that it could be ride the bus, and after drive a car.  Riding a car and flying is probably very close in price.

Now if you want to fly, you should investigate the typical sites like Expedia, Travelocity, etc.  In addition I would recommend you to check with the Mexican Airlines websites directly.  Like www.mexicana.com I just saw they have a $540 round trip from Boston to Guadalajara.

Or you could try to combine trips.  Like fly to Vegas from Boston and from Vegas to Guadalajara with Aviacsa or any other Mexican airline.
