What's the cheapest way to mail a small package to Jamaica via USPS ?

I want to send my niece a small package via USPS.

I checked the USPS website and the rates are ridiculous!! I normally send stuff there in a barrel or with who ever is going down but this package needs to be down there within 3 weeks.

There is no Media Mail option for International Mail. Even Domestic Media Mail can only be used for specific types of materials.

First Class Mail International is fairly inexpensive, but, there is no tracking ability and can not be insured .

Priority Mail International is more expensive, but offers tracking to major destinations and carries a certain level of indemnity coverage based on weight.

UPS, FedEx and others often charge what is called a Brokerage Fee to clear your package through Customs. This can be upwards of $50US. Countries charge a Duty to protect their own industries. Makes it difficult for foreign companies to "dump" their products into a market that would undercut the local industries.

USPS International Rates are some of the lowest in the world.

Well if you send USPS airmail a small package doesnt cost much, depends on weight. You can use DHL or Fed-ex, they are expensive though.

The USPS is definately the way to go if it is a small package and you have the time (3-4 wks). if you label it media mail, that would be books/ cds, it should be a lilttle cheaper cause then they dont charge by the actual weight.

yep, USPS is the cheapest,  but boy are you gonna wait for that package to arrive, wrap it good and mark it media like she said, no prob.

Well. I sent my boyfriend a package via Fed_Ex, for his birthday,and they charged me $75.00 (US) Also keep in mind that if you send electronics,then they will charge you a duty tax or fee! They had the nerve to charge him $200.00 to pick up HIS birthday pacakage! I was fuming to say the least! Next time i will go down there in person to give it to him! Just do some research,but it will not be cheap whichever method you use!
