  1. I was living in New York as a kid, and the temperature dropped from 70 to 32 degrees and heavy snows followed.  40 iches worth in about 24 hrs.   I had a basketball hoop and some plywood but the ground was covered in snow.  At 32 it wasnt that cold and I had a great time.

  2. On hot days with a strong temperature inversion in Southern California the temperature can go from below 70 near the coast to over 100 degrees in a distance of 15 miles or so.

  3. I once felt a cold front pass me and the temp dropped about 20 degrees in about 2 seconds.  It wasn't very windy, just a mild breeze, so the distance between the 2 temps was probably 10 or 20 feet at most.

  4. The biggest extreme will be between Mt Whitney and Death Valley (less than 100 miles apart).  Today Death Valley was in the 90's and Mt Whitney was most likely below 0 or approaching the very low teens all day.  Today we had cloud cover and high winds, Mt Whitney is covered with heavy snow most of the way.  Where I'm at is a town just below Mt Whitney and it will be 24 degrees here tonight.
