  1. I THINK IT IS CHINESE TRADITION.

  2. It would appear to be Japanese.

  3. Chinese, Korean and Japanese historical costume is all very similar, since Koreans and Japanese people are ethnically related (although neither nation will admit it) and the Chinese culture had a huge influence on both.

There are some clues within the picture:

The hairstyle is unlike traditional Japanese or Korean hair.

The sword is straight, unlike Japanese swords from around the 11th century onwards (earlier swords were straight, though!).

The sleeves resemble some kimono sleeves (Japanese) but the rest of the garment is unlike traditional kimono.

The text at bottom right is in archaic Chinese style, similar to the text used on jade seals.

Taking all this together, I would go for a traditional Chinese dress - but bear in mind that China has many ethnic groups within its borders, some of whom have completely different dress.

  4. I think you'll find it's Chinese not Japanese.
