I have installed a different coil that uses an external resistor. I also have installed a 1.8 ohm external resistor. Still, I continue to burn the condenser up. I'm wanting to wire 2 external resistors in series. I know it isn't the correct coil. The correct coil is quite expensive. I'm just looking for o temporary, cheap fix until I can afford the correct coil.

  1. I'm thinking you must have a Volvo- penta. The purpose of the resistor is to lower the voltage of the coil output. I may be wrong, but 9.8 volts is the running voltage for a gm coil after the external/ballast resistor. Ford is about he same.
