What's the cream substance a boxer/fighter's trainer rubs on their face before a fight?

I was watching UFC earlier and noticed the fighters' trainers applying some sort of cream to their face before the entered the ring. I'm guessing it's the same with boxing - I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this, so can someone clear it up for me? Is it just petroleum jelly or some sort of anaesthetic cream to reduce the pain?

  2. You are refering to the "cream" that is rubbed around the eyebrow area. Ha, no it is not an anaesthetic to reduce pain. It is Vaseline it is suppose to help make your opponents glove sort of graze, slide off  as oppose to tearing the skin.

  3. it's vaseline.

It helps reduce cuts by allowing the opponents gloves to slip instead of tearing the skin.
