I mean, seriously, where does it come from, how did it all start?

And please don't give me any "funny" answers. I don't like funny. I like serious.

Thank you!

:)

  1. I believe part of it relates to the age old R&S question...

Question: "WHY ARE ATHEISTS HERE IN THE RELIGION SECTION?"

Answer: "We're here because we kept getting kicked out of the Cats section."

    Or something to that effect.

  2. I don't know.  I'm not too fond of cats anyway.  I like dogs.

  3. cats are atheists.  it seemed like a good fit.  bad thing is that there are no cats in the cat section.

  4. Cats are Atheist's trustworthy partners.

Dogs are Believers' weak partners.  Everyone know this!

  5. LOLCAT

  6. Cats were worshiped by Ancient Egyptians , we (Atheists) like to be worshiped .

  7. This question is funny, and I'm serious.

  8. I believe it all started with "ceiling cat"... the feline deity that watches you touch yourself through a hole in the ceiling.

I'm not trying to be funny. Try googling "ceiling cat".

  9. It has been said that Cats are preferred pets of free thinkers. A mistreated cat seeks to escape, a mistreated dog greets it's abuser with a cheerful wagging tail.

It is interesting to note how many of History's tyrants loathed cats. Hitler, Napoleon, Stalin, etc.  Tyrants tend to love dogs, they are the model of unquestioning obedience.

The free-thinkers kept posting pics of their beloved cats, and the internet worked it's magic on them.

  10. I have never heard of a connection between atheists and cats, but after some research it has something to do with this picture:

  11. It all goes back to the atheists in ancient Egypt.  They'd steel the faro's cats as a joke and the faro would be all "BAAAAAWWWwwwww  my kitty  :,(" and they would all laugh.

  12. Fireball - don't flatter yourself love.

  13. Ever met a cat that believes in a god?

    I rest my case.

  14. Why is there so much wars, starvation, pain and suffering in the world? If God was good and powerful or existed, shouldn't he do something about that? If you were starving in a war torn country, you would eat a cat.

  15. I don't like cats.  I prefer birds, fish, reptiles and dogs.

  16. No humor. Okay.

    What is red and hums?

    A cat in a blender.

    ------------------------

    Later addition.

Wasn't there a science fiction series that had cats as the characters (other than Ring World, Man Kzin Wars, Honor Harrington series)?

  17. We don't have a deal with cats. We have a deal with ULTIMA DU DUUUU

  18. One day I said Im allergic to them...do you suppose thats it?

  19. So a guy walks into a bar... ouch.

    X

  20. look up longcat and ceiling cat then you'll understand

  21. what do you mean?

  22. I prefer dogs but I have both, 2 cats and 2 dogs.

  23. OK, here's the deal.  If atheists want to answer questions pertaining to metaphysics, theology, what have you, then this is the place to do it.  The "cats" thing is used to illustrate how ridiculous it would be if we took these answers to a completely inappropriate section.

Of course people belong here if they intend on accurately answering questions pertaining to R&S, even if they're atheists!  They belong here much more than they belong in the "cats" section.

  24. We like cats.  Best pets ever.  Also, longcat, ceiling cat.

  25. I dunno but I got a book once about females and cats. Females have ALWAYS been associated with cats. Cats are even refered to as females by a lot of people when speaking in vague terms about them. The Egyptians had two cat goddesses (Bast, Sekmet) that were both female and the association remained until the Middle Ages...Then whenever a woman was accused of being a witch she was usually a villager that used herbs as medication and they usually had cats as pets (to chase away mice, that and they're good companions). The cats were said to be their 'familiars' and usually burned/tortured with the person--I guess the image stuck so now people associate witches (and from there atheists) with cats.

Edit: I like Mr Biutters answer ;-)

I have both dogs and cats...I like both but prefer cats anyway...and I go to the 'cats' section every once in a while myself...even though I am NOT A CAT!

    ;-)

  26. I hate cats.

  27. not sure, but there is definitely a correlation.
