Question:

What's the deal with equifax's fake free credit report?

My husband went through equifax for the "free" credit report and had to agree to a 7 day "trial" $14.95/month product. We agreed and planned to cancel. Now that we are trying to cancel - we cannot find a place to cancer nor a live person to speak with. The only thing you can do is buy a product to get to talk to a person. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do? Isn't this illegal? Thanks..

  1. I had the same problem.  I ended up cancelling the credit card that it was on and having another one issued.  It took me months to figure out to do that.  But I did find out that if you contact the credit card company that they can give you a phone number to contact for any charge made.

  2. Equifax, Transunion, and Experian are the big "three" credit reporting bureaus... Uncle Sam allows everyone one free credit report a year w/ out pinging your score... It sounds as if you simply went and signed up for a reporting program they offer in error.  They all make money by offering those "monotoring" programs and allow a "free" credit report... however the catch is you HAVE to sign up w/ them to get your report...  Kind of like "FREE CREDIT REPORT DOT COM!!!" (and then some guy on the commercial says real soft and fast) "OFFER APPLIES W/ ENROLLMENT IN TRIPLE ADVANTAGE" or whatever he says.... I'd just try to contact them by phone... call some car dealers, insurance companies, or mtg. companies if you can't find the number online or elsewhere... you have a right to cancel.

  3. Call your credit card company and have them cancel the charges from Equifax.  Do it now, and do it every time they bill you until they stop.

Tell the CC company what you told us - that you can't find any place to cancel the trial, except by buying more product.

  4. I have done it...there is a help menu...search for "how to cancel my subscription"..it will show you how to do it.  and if you get to it before the 7 day trial ends..they won't bill you.  There is also a customer service # you can call in the contact us section.  They can instruct you how.

  5. Equifax provides your report but not your score.  You have to pay extra for that.. You agreed to a service for a trial period.  You should have printed out your report.  I agree with the other answer, go to the website and there is a list of phone numbers as well as a physical address to cancel this trial subscription.  Do it quickly.  Many sites have this trial c**p and it angers me.  Like when you order flowers.  They hit my card but I monitor it closely and immediatley canceled the "Trial". You also have 30 days to go back in and review your report.  Find the phone number of the secondary provider (That's most likely what it is) and cancel immediately. Don't let them push you around.,Equifax is a reputable company and should also give you information on who to call to cancel

  6. You screwed up.  www.annualcreditreport.com is where you get your once-a-year free report from all three bureaus.

  7. go to annual credit report.com and every 4 months you get a free report so you can get all 3 agencies per year....  it is totally free...i have done it twice....
