Question:

What's the deal with pick-up truck drivers??

I've had more than my fair share of close calls with stupid pick up truck drivers. What is it about the people driving these trucks that makes them all high and mighty. They generally will cut you off, try to race you, never use turn signals and when involved in an accident, their trucks will probably crash the poor little cars involved. Please share your views, do you feel the same way about these drivers and their road behaviors? If you are a pick up truck driver I'm also interested to hear any intelligent remarks.

  1. they are normally drunk. and stupid...

  2. wow, nice sweeping generalization, i used to drive a few trucks, and believe me, there are just as many idiots on the road driving cars....trucks are just easier to intimidate with cause they ARE bigger...

  3. i never tasted a pick up truck

  4. I have to agree with you. They drive if you can call it that like traffic laws do not apply to them. They pass in no passing zones on blind curves. There always going 20 plus over the limit .They tailgate no end. They run stop signs and floor it threw red lights. Generally ramming into some car that had the right of way. And there so stupid that when they do finally lose control of their poor handling truck and flip it they usually get throw out of the thing because their not wearing their seat belt. As for car drivers being bad yes they are but not to the extent of SUV and pickup truck drivers, As for the idiot that said truck drivers are stupid. There not ,but how stupid are you that you can't even answer the question correctly? Probably drives a pick up. Oh and as far as the racing part goes.you have to be really stupid if you think a pick up is fast.

  5. well, usually truck drivers are poor educated, when they drive for few weeks on the road, they do get pissed pretty well.

it is only when they find out they are charged with manslaughter in a traffic accident, then they will start to grow up. but before that, you got to drive a bigger car.

  6. Young drivers-- juveniles-- are the ones I've had the most trouble with.

    Pickup trucks not especially.

Drivers of those trucks give me plenty of clearance, though I have noticed they don't care much to slow down when they pass, and they enjoy gunning the engine.

  7. I drive a P/U truck, as I NEED one. I observe the speed limits, which pisses people off, I don't tailgate, I signal when it matters, and I start slowing down well before red lights, which ALSO pisses people off. I quit racing long ago.

I don't get INTO accidents, because I have finally matured enough to realize that rushing doesn't accomplish anything. It only causes anxiety for me.

  8. Personally I think everyone drives like c**p, I think all car have finally ran out of blinker fluid too. But you know everyones in a rush to get nowhere.

  9. I drive one, but I do not drive like what you described. I find it's the high end "car" drivers that are like that. Where I live , there are alot of older farmers who should not be driving, overly couscous, so I just adjust me driving till they are no longer around or till it is safe to pass. I'm getting up there myself so I'm in no big hurry and always give myself plenty of time to get to where I'm going.

  10. I totally agree with you. A lot of people that drive trucks drive like they think they own the road.

I had a truck driver pass me one time on the interstate right before the exit ramp because I guess he thought I was not driving fast enough. I was driving 70 in a 60 mph. When he got ready to move back over he did not use a signal and almost took my front bumper off.

I don't have a problem with the smaller trucks. Its the people that drive the big full size trucks that annoy me the most. They always seem to speed at least 20 over the posted speed limit, tailgate and run red lights.  A lot of them drive like they think they are on the Daytona 500.

  11. Your point of view is definately biased. I drive not only a pick up truck but I also drive a semi truck for my spending money. I often think my semi is invisible based on how a lot of cars and trucks with four wheels drive around me. If you was to start driving a truck yourself, would you become as bad as you say other truck drivers are or would you say all car drivers are bad? Likely you would say all car drivers are bad.

  12. Generalizations are meaningless. Here in Texas you probably see more pickups than cars. I find that young people in sporty cars are more likely to drive as you stated than those who drive pickups. However I also realize it's only a small percentage of them who give the rest bad names. Just as one jerk in a 'vette digging out at a light and fishtailing down the road tends to give all the 'vette drivers a bad name. I've probably seen more bad or obnoxious drivers in Mustangs than any other car. But I've driven Mustangs for over 25 years and pickups since I was a kid and know that it's the "10%" who cause all the trouble.

  13. I've been driving a tractor-trailer for a long time, and I'm sorry, but pickups and SUVs aren't the only ones on the road that drive like morons.  There are plenty of stupid car drivers as well.  I have to deal with them every weekend at work.

Hats off to Paul, who echoes my sentiments.

  14. Your question is retarded brother. I used to drive a pickup truck, and I drove it carefully, had a lot of problems with people in cars cutting me off and driving like idiots around me because they assumed I was a static object on the road though.

It did get in one and only one accident: I was parked at a red light, some lady in a car slammed into me at 60 MPH. The bulk of my truck saved my life, from a dumb*ss driving a car.

    Stop making stupid generalizations. k?

  15. Yeah, but so do the other drivers of smaller cars.

It's harder to drive a pick-up truck because they're bigger,

Sometimes other drivers need to give them more room.

But some of that is right.

You sit high up and feel in command of the road with a truck.

Trucks can have a ton of power and make you feel like king of the road.

  16. I'd be willing to bet it is something you are doing. I just don't see what you say

  17. I went from driving a small car to driving a pickup truck (I drive a small SUV now).

I thought the same way you did when I was driving a car. But when I went to driving the truck, my thoughts changed directly towards car drivers who think because they're smaller, they can weave in and out of traffic without using their indicators and never look in their mirrors.

Since it's safer, I always drive with my lights on, but I would still have people (especially in BMW's and Mercedes) who wouldn't be paying attention and cut me off or start merging into my lane. But, many people don't realize that Pickups and larger SUV's are just like semi's. They have a good sized blind spot on each size where you could easily hide a full sized car.

Now since I'm in my SUV, I've noticed that the worst drivers are those who drive Escalades and Lexus's. I guess it all depends on what you drive.
