What's the deal with the Hi-Def camcorders?

If I want a good camcorder (willing to spend quite a sum), but don't have a hi-def T.V., then am I stuck without the possibility of getting a Hi-Def camcorder? Can the High-Def camcorders function in a regular T.V, or do they have non-HD settings, or am I just going to have to live without a Hi-Def camcorder.

  1. Noo, the HD Camcorders will work on all TVs, high-def or not. If you don't have an HDTV and you are willing to buy an HD Camcorder, on your TV, your videos will appear in standard definition or 480i. Which isn't HD. But if you do have an HDTV, your videos will be viewed in 1080i. So just because your TV isn't HD, doesn't mean the HD Camcorder won't work with your TV.

  2. Most if not all HD cameras allow shoot in SD or to down convert to SD into your editor.
