What's the deal with the gamefly trade ins???

Question

ok ive been thinking about it because gamefly has great deals on prepaid games.... but then i saw the beta for trading in games. so now im wondering if the games i trade in can go to buying games or will they just go toward my membership fees? or can they also help pay for lost/ damaged games?
