The deepest I have ever heard of is the USS Hoel, a Fletcher class destroyer sunk in the Battle of Samar in 1944. She sank in 4000 fathoms (24000 feet).

  1. Whoever sank in the Marianas Trench 35,000 feet deep.

  2. The USS Johnston, and the USS Samuel B. Roberts sank in the same battle, along with the jeep carrier USS Gambier Bay.  I don't know which one of these is deepest. There are a lot of sunken ships in the Pacific. I would not be surprised to learn that there are several in the Marianas Trench, the deepest place on earth.

  3. The Titanic, but it seems your shipwreck is far deeper than mine.

  4. Well, the deepest wreck ever discovered was a German blockade runner at 5,762 meters.

But that's just the deepest that man has found.   We know there are lots that are much deeper.

USS Yorktown, sunk at the Battle of Midway, is 17,000 feet down.

USS Indianapolis sunk in very deep water, possibly up to 3 miles, which would be almost 16,000 feet.

I'd imagine there are quite a few other WWII wrecks that deep, too.

  5. I saw a sabot sink in San Diego bay once.

I don't like to talk about it.

Poor little yacht club kid had to swim about 20 feet to safety.

I think his Rolex got scratched.
