I keep hearing its 666 or 616....I have a book of general ignorance ( of things people normally say wrong ) and it says its 616 and that 666 is i think the number of man.........HELP

The universe is functioning under certain immutable laws of nature, and not according to a number or any astrological prediction. The devil's number etc. is man made conjectures and there is no reality in it. For me 666 or 616, or 5 or any number is all the same. If a person can give me $666, I gladly accept it and there is no devil's face I can see on the american buck.

That book is right.

The Bible has been translated many times, into and from many languages. This inevitably leads to quite a few mistakes, such as the number.

Early scribes, when translating the Bible, reached the section that speaks of the number of the beast, translating it as "six and three-score six." This would translate to 666. However, the scribes got it wrong. The actual number is 616, and has just stayed in the cracks all this time. If you go back and read any of the oldest versions of the Bible (in their native language) you can still find 616.
