  5. Psychotic refers to a LOT of different possible mental problems.

    Neurotic is basically the same.

    Schizophrenia, on the other hand, is different because it is not a very wide range of symptoms.

  8. Psychotic - loss of contact with reality; delusional

    Neurotic - its a mental imbalance (mostly emotional; think personality disorders) but doesn't affect rational thought like "psychotics".

    Schizophrenia - a mental disorder that can create a distorted sense of reality. Sometimes hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thoughts/speech. But keep in mind that just because a person is "schizo" does NOT mean they are psychotic....many people function perfectly normal, especially with meds.
