I'm looking to get a cable from monoprice but the above cables cost considerably different. What's the difference and why is one so much more pricier than the other? Is 22 or 24 recommended? Thanks!!!

  1. 22 is thicker wire. The lower the number, the thicker and more desirable the wire, but unless you are planning on going across the room, go for the cheaper one.

  2. If it were HDMI-HDMI I'd say look for HDMI 1.3 Category 2 certified cables, but HDMI-DVI cables are only differentiated on the basis of wire gauge (and CL2 rating if allowed to be installed in a wall). Basically, for short distances (3 ft) any will do. As the distance gets longer you will be safer (less chance of signal failure) with larger gauge wires. The downside is the cable gets stiffer and the chance of the connector pulling loose (at the HDMI end) increases. Generally I'd go with 26 or 24 gauge for all but long connections ... and then I'd consider buying from Blue Jeans Cables (I simply trust that if they sell a specific cable length it will work).

  3. 22 is better for longer distances, less resistance. Make sure that you have the correct DVI end b/c there are like 4 diff groups of DVI that dont interact with each other. look at the pin configuration. that could also be the diff in price.           DVI does not support sound.
