What's the difference b/w dvd+r & dvd-r?

how do i know which one to use? can i use any or does it have compatibility uses w/ the rom or the burner? what is the usual size of a dvd+r/dvd-r in gb?

  1. The difference is really minimal other than DVD-RW recorders won't record on DVD+R disks and vice versa. However, most burners now are backwards compatible with each other, and dual layer too.


  2. This has been something of an annoyance for consumers, especially if you have older equipment. Essentially the two standards were developed by different consortiums and use slightly different methods to burn the discs.  The end product is essentially the same however.

    As the other poster mentioned most modern burners can burn both types, however your playing equipment must also be able to read both types too.

    Usually some experimentation is required to find out the best type of discs to use with all of your equipment. Even the same type of disc from different companies can produce different results, so don't buy large quantities of any particular disc type until you've tried a disc first. Quality counts too!
