  1. A cabin is generally one room, occasionally two.

A cottage is a small house.

Cabins also tend to be built in a less finished fashion, as opposed to a cottage that is typically painted, has windows and other finished work.

The location of a cabin is always rural - a cottage can be in an urban area.

The location of each (near water, etc.) has nothing to do with whether or not it is a "cottage" or "cabin', nor does the material they are built of.

Cabins and cottages can be built of any building material.

  2. a cottage is the dwelling of a farm laborer or small farmer. and a cabin is a small one-story dwelling usually of simple construction....so nothing.

  3. A wood cottage? Cottages aren't made of wood...they are small, cute houses. You get them in the countryside a lot. Sometimes posh people like to name their houses "Something Cottage" when it is obviously a big house.

On the other hand the cottage is a little house/room close to the sea and/or on a farm.

The cabin is made of wood and the cottage is made mostly of stone.

I hope this can help you.
