Lately I've been wondering, what is the difference between AMPS and SUBS in your car?

Why are they categorized differently?

Which one is better?

Do you need both of them?

Basically, I'm asking for a general overview between those two products.

Thank you for all your help and sharing your knowledge with me :D

  1. They are categorized differently because their two different things. The AMP, or, amplifier, processes the signal that your stereo is making and boosts it to produce the signal so your speakers can make the sound. Ok, this is a simplified explanation. So, the SUB's, are one of a class of speakers, Sub-woofer, to be specific. There are woofers, su-woofers teeters amount other speaker names. Each specific speaker responds in different ways to the signal sent to them. Tweeters produce the higher pitched sounds better, sub-woofers and woofers produce the lower range of sounds. Yes, you need both, and being that they are two different things, there's no comparing one against another. May I suggest getting in touch with a local car stereo or audio store near you for a better explanation.

  2. AMPS-  Amplify sound while SUBS (subwoofers) are used to produce more bass.
