What's the difference between Classic Rock and Classic Hits?

To me, Classic Rock is a rock station that plays the old AOL format. Groups like AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Eagles, and Bad. Co. Classic Hits are the top 40 tunes from the 70's and 80's. Culture Club, Duran Duran, The Cars...ect.

What do you think is better? Classic Rock or Classic Hits?

  1. Classic Hits are what's played on any commercial radio station.

Classic Rock is going to be more heard on stations like XM Deep Tracks.

    I guess.

  2. Classic Rock of course, and you're right, there is a major distinction in the two. Kinda like how there's modern rock and pop rock/mainstream rock.

  3. i think classic rock is ALL rock from 60s-70s and classic hits is hits from them....ones that sold good

  4. It really depends... I like all of the bands you have there so I guess I like both, eh? I prefer a lot of the Classic Rock over the Classic Hits, but sometimes the hits can be nice for variation!

  5. Classic rock is for old people. Classic hits are for younger people.

  6. I work at a radio station that plays Classic Rock HITS! So you can have a blend of both.

We play only the popular songs by the big Classic Rock artist. Our format is less hard edged as the classic rock format. And we do NOT play Duran Duran or any other pop songs like that. If it's considered rock and it was a big hit, we play it.

  7. I personally like the classic hits better. I tend to listen to what's popular.

  8. Definitely classic rock.  Your example itself answered the question. Are we really going to compare Bad Company and The Eagles to ******* Duran Duran?
