  1. great britain is england, scotland ,wales and ireland england is england

  2. Great Britain is a nickname or something? Got to give that one the best answer. Never laughed so much in a good long while.

    God bless America!!

    Great Britain,

officially United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constitutional monarchy on the British Isles, off W Europe. The country is often referred to simply as Britain. Technically, Great Britain comprises England , Wales and Scotland on the island of Great Britain, while the United Kingdom includes Great Britain as well as Northern Ireland on the island of Ireland. The Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea and the Channel Islands in the English Channel, are dependencies of the crown, with their own systems of government. ♣

  3. Um Englad and Britain are the same thing. Like America and United States. Great Britain is a nickname or something.

  4. I'm not surprised this question keeps getting asked over and over again because each time, more than half the answers are wrong and who knows what one the questioner goes away with as the correct answer! As has beed said - Great Britain is England Scotland and Wales combined, England is just England. (For interest, United Kingdom is Great Britaibn plus Northern Ireland)

  5. Great Britain is in fact England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland.

    Hope that helps.

EDIT: AI M, you are wrong, the UK and GB are not the same.

As many people have correctly stated, the UK is GB plus Northern Ireland.

Btw, just incase the OP didn't know, Ireland is split up into 2 parts, Northern Ireland (part of the UK, not part of GB) and the Republic Of Ireland (ROI). However, Ireland is a country  despite being split up.

  6. England is one of 3 countries which make Great Britain, the other two are Scotland and Wales.

Britain is short for Great Britain.

  7. Great Britain is the Island which consists of the countries England, Scotland and Wales.

The United Kingdom is Great Britain plus the country Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland is NOT a province, as some people on here seem to think)

England is the Largest Country in the UK

Britain and Great Britain means the same thing.

  8. you have a few right answers there and a few wrong ones

England is just one single country

Great Britain (or Britain for short) is the largest island of the British isles and is the Island that the countries of England, Scotland and Wales are situated on.

The United Kingdom is Great Britain plus Northern Ireland, or to give it it's full name

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern ireland

  9. There are some some people here giving "Thumbs Down" to correct answers, so I'll just be another one saying that Great Britain does indeed refer to the bigger of the two islands off the west coast of continental Europe. The political entities on that island are England, Scotland and Wales.

The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales plus Northern Ireland.

"Britain" is an acceptable shorthand way of referring to the United Kingdom.

Acceptable abbreviations for postal use and such are "UK" or "GB". Either should be pretty much universally understood.

Some people do not like the fact that the above are the current political realities and they would like to see one or more of the countries which are part of the UK become politically detached from the others. This sort of thinking might prompt people to give a "Thumbs Down", but then that's a statement of general disgruntlement, not indicative of the answer being inconsistent with the truth.

A historical footnote: The "Great" in Great Britain should not be taken as a statement of political importance, national pride or any other sort of indication of the country's wonderfulness. Rather, it was used first in the Middle Ages to distinguish the island of "Greater Britain" from "Lesser Britain", an area now known as Brittany in France.

  10. Nothing, just called all of the above.
