What's the difference between Juno and Bristol Palin?

Conservatives claimed the movie "Juno" made teen pregnancy cool and okay. Yet, they seem to be applauding Bristol Palin's pregnancy. Is there really a difference, or is it simply convenient hypocrisy?

All is fair in politics!  If the Republicans made a big deal about Obama's middle name, called Michelle, Obama's wife, "Obama's Baby Mama" and and "Terrorist Fist Jab," why can't Democrats take a stab at little Bristol Palin.  

If the shoe were on the other foot Republicans would be quick to say that African American adolescent girls are having children out of wedlock!

Sarah Palin is the one responsible for her daughter's name being smeared world wide.  She is the one who put her political ambitions ahead of her daughter's privacy.

She fought against s*x education being taught in the schools and apparently she didn't teach it at home.

This is so opposite to what the right wing conservatives teach.  But it is o.k. if it is one of their own.

Juno and Bristol are not alike in any way. Bristol is going to marry the father of the baby and took responsibility instead of sneaking to the smushmortion clinic.

Who is anyone to judge her? Teen pregnancy is becoming more and more apparent, yet the kids that are out having s*x since they turn 14 go unnoticed...

The difference is that Bristol's mom is a rich politician.  If Gov. Palin and her daughter were from the ghetto, people would be calling Palin an unfit mother for raising such a daughter who would get pregnant at 17.  No one would support them or feel sorry for them in this situation.  But because Palin is a govenor and well off, their decision to keep the baby is admirable.  People feel sorry for Bristol because of what she's going through.  She's not battling cancer.  She didn't suffer a tragic accident.  She had s*x and got pregnant.  Oh poor girl.  The Palin family is being praised for making the choice to keep the baby.  Nobody praised Jaime Lynn Spears or those girls from Gloucester High School in Massachusetts who alledgedly made a pact to get pregnant.  People looked down on them and used them as examples of how not to be.  Why? Because they are not the daughters of a govenor running for VP.  People are focused on the baby but forget that s*x is what led to that baby, and nobody can honestly say they support Bristol for having s*x as a teenager.  I don't have a problem with the baby.  I have a problem with irresponsible teenage s*x.  I guess in the Palin family, having a baby at 17 is considered a blessing.  Gov Palin said, "We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents."  Like I said, if this was a teenager from the ghetto, no one would be proud.  A teenager having a baby is never a proud moment no matter who you are.

I, too, am having a problem with this. Especially after finding out that Bristol's mother was also pregnant when she got married. This same mother is the one who opposes fact based s*x education. Maybe she did not have "that" conversation with her daughter.I do not know how the religious right, who preach abstinance can support a VP candidate who spouts a moral agenda that is inconsistant with her personal actions.

Nancie, Nancie, Nancie...you are a woman after my own heart!  I just posted on another site about the same thing. I find it quite interesting that everyone is saying "Leave Bristol Alone" but, where were these people a couple of mths ago when Jamie Lynn Spears was going through the media frenzy? Which media outlet stood up for her? Of course neither of these girls should be run in the ground; however, what makes Bristol Palin any better than Jamie Spears? I believe, older Republicans { most of them are old :- }see her as their granddaughter...and we all know that in your grandma / grandpa's eyes you can do NO WRONG!

Another thing, have you noticed that the media refers to Bristols  boyfriend as her "baby's father" but, Jamie Spears boyfriend as her "baby daddy"?  To some folks this may sound picky but, I think most of us know that there is a BIG DIFFERENCE.   To label someone a "BABY DADDY", is not a good thing.  In the urban community, it carries a negative connotation. It's a stereotype for a man who has fathered a child but is a dead beat dad or never married the kid's mother. How could Jamie Spears' boyfriend be a deadbeat dad before the baby was born? He was actually her fiance`.

**Republicans are saying that Sarah Palin can raise her 5 kids and be VP of the U.S.  How could being VP not interfere with parenting; being Governor apparently did.  ie; Bristol is pregnant? Palin is nuts if she thinks that her children will not suffer throught thism Bristol is already suffering.  As a mother, you have to base all of your decisions on what's best for your children.  Clearly, Sarah is has made her decision based on her own selfish needs.  WOW Sarah, you've been chosen MOST SUCESSFUL!!!  So what's next, Willow Palin gets pregnant in 2 more yrs when she's 16? Since Sarah Palin failed at teaching Bristol to practice abstinence, I guess Bristol can teach her mom about s*x ed and condoms!
