Iraq we may have expected terrorist and WMD's there, but Georgia was originally the one's who attacked south Ossetia and created a conflict between them. so how are we different from them?

  1. Hey "Tatty" - we had a coalition?? Really? Can you name MORE than three countries?

There isn't much difference.  I will grant the fact that Russia invaded a democracy opposed to a dictatorship, but since when did the Republican party all of a sudden become such interventionists?? I thought thats why they always criticized Democrats?

  2. Wow!  I had no idea that Georgia was supporting a terrorist organization that killed 3,000 Russians in one day by using hijacked airplanes as missiles!

I love it when lefties such as yourself seek to morally equate things that are clearly not morally equal.

By the way, Iraq was a mess long before we ever got there.   Unless you think that living under one of the last century's most brutal dictators was like living in paradise.

    .

    .

  3. Not much difference, but the typical American will say that the difference is that we're "the good guys"

  4. A lot. The Iraq war was unnecessary and illegal. Russia was entitled to protect their citizens in S Ossetia which had a semi-autonomous status. They have however been extremely heavy-handed and should have withdrawn by now.

Jenny Kim. Do you really believe that Saddam a secular leader supported Muslim extremists? Where's your evidence? Of course Saddam was appalling, but that was not the declared reason for the war. I hate people who have tunnel vision. Start thinking!! Lastly, you might care to ponder that I supported the Gulf War and the invasion of Afghanistan. So much for anti- US sentiments. You simply sound like a "My country right or wrong person"

  5. None whatsover, except the Russians declared victory and stood down.

  6. National security is the issue in Georgia and Russian conflict. The Russians feel insecure having a NATO member right in his door step and an absolute American allay. . While in the Irag war, your President Bush thinks that someone has to pay for the 9/11 tragedy. So he invaded Afghanistan and Irag. Remember, Irag, invaded Kuwait, and because Saddam was belligerent, America invaded his country for good.

Frankly, I don't know the difference.

  7. At least they had some justification because some of their former citizens were attacked by an opposing majority. What did we ever have- the lie that there were WMD's? The words, bullpucky and hooey come to mind.

  8. I'm not Russian and I won't speak for their disputes. However, relative to your question, one big difference is that the United States sought international approval before the Iraq War. Russia ,on the other hand, blitzed Georgia without giving any warning to the United Nations or NATO.

  9. Difference is Russia goes by land and air and Americans  just go oversea.

Both invaded other lands for some personal reasons.

Americans ask Russia out. While Russia just see .

Americans complained to world body. Russia  just wait for  Iraqis to call for SOS.

  10. We went into Iraq for oil. Russia is trying "and succeding" to take back lost land. And another difference, our government says its ok for us to do so.

  11. Russia is bad and we are good.Simple

  12. What a lousy comparison .... you MIGHT WANT TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

  13. the two big locomotive are on the same rail fighting in Iraq and Georgia for nothing, both running at full speed with opposite directions, and will collide against each other.

Italian are the train conductor to ensure collision between USA and Russia kill all and everyone in the locomotive and the train behind it.

  14. They invaded a democracy,

    We invaded a dictatorship.

They took down a representative government.

We took down an oppressive regime that used chemical weapons to commit genocide on their own people.

They don't listen to anyone, We worked with a coalition.

South Ossetia is part of Georgia, Putin has been provoking Georgia there through Russia giving support to separatist militias.

    UPDATE:

    D Bauched,

I never said I agreed with the invasion of Iraq, I didn't. I'm a conservative, not a neoconservative, and I much prefer the walk softly and carry a big stick approach; I'm certainly not an interventionist. But this comparison to Russia's invasion of Georgia is nonsense moral relativism.

Not much of a difference? Democracy, compared to a dictatorship. Saddam Hussein and his Government used chemical weapons to kill hundreds of thousands of his Kurdish and Shiite Iraqis. The Georgian's responded to Russia's provocation through supporting the separatist militias.

Despite my opposition to the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the fact is that we are there now, and it is incumbent on us to give Iraq a reasonable amount of stability before we leave, we cant just go in, send their country into chaos, then cut and run.

    As for our coalition,

Yes I can name more than three.

Six allies contributed troops to the invasion force:

the U.K., Spain, Italy, Australia, Poland, and Denmark.

Though most have withdrawn or reduced troop numbers since, Thirty-three more allies contributed troops and material support to the occupation after the invasion was complete, including Georgia actually, which had to withdraw 2000 troops from Iraq earlier this month.
